The Clarendon Royal Community marks the next historical chapter for the renowned former Clarendon Royal Hotel – a building which holds a special place in the heart of locals as it has occupied its position on the banks of the River Thames since 1843. Age UK Kent Rivers are passionate about honouring the history and name of the building, and will continue to be embody the heart of the Clarendon Royal Hotel into its transformation to a thriving community hub. The Restaurant, Admiral’s Bar and Café will remain open to the public, where it’s superb dining, including exquisite high-end à la carte cuisine, can still be enjoyed by the local community.

The History of the Clarendon Royal Hotel
It was this visit which enabled the hotel to add the ‘Royal’ moniker to its name, becoming The Royal Clarendon Hotel, and now The Clarendon Royal Community. With its original features lovingly restored by its current owner back in 2007, the Clarendon has lost none of its grandeur and has never fallen out of favour.
Outside the Clarendon
Places of interest in easy walking distance, include Milton Chantry - once a leper colony and Gravesend’s oldest building; Pocahontas' grave site and statue in St George's church yard; the town Market - one of the oldest in the country; the New Tavern Fort and Gardens; and the lovely Promenade. Tilbury Fort can be reached by a 10-minute ferry journey across the river. It was here Queen Elizabeth I famously addressed her forces before they departed to defeat the Spanish Armada.
